At the end of 2019, Apple launched a new service - Apple Arcade. It is aimed at people who love to play anytime, anywhere. It currently has over 100 games available for all users who have previously paid for a subscription.
One of the biggest benefits of the Apple Arcade is that it is available in all regions. To install it, you just need one of the gadgets iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Apple TV, with software not earlier than iOS 13. Some games on it are also compatible with joysticks from Play Station and Xbox.
With a subscription, most games do not require a Wi-Fi connection. An exception will be online games in which you compete with other players. And don't worry about saving data. The service allows you to synchronize data between all devices authorized under one ID in Game Center. So the current state of the iPhone game will no doubt be carried over. You can also share the subscription with your relatives or friends. By starting an Apple family with a maximum of 6 people, you can share and compare results.
As part of the service, there are no micropayments or ads that kill the fun of many games, not just free ones. Apple guarantees that games will also be exempt from the commission, and the single fee that the user pays is a subscription.
Another feature of the subscription is access to exclusive games. The company managed to establish cooperation not only with well-known manufacturers of games for mobile platforms, such as Gameloft, but also obtained unique ones from Ubisoft, Sega, Devolver, and Konami. The library of games is constantly growing and updated.
Aside from all the usability, Apple never ceases to amaze. The company offers all subscribers a free trial month, and buyers of the latest gadgets get 3 months of free access. Apple One users will be pleasantly surprised that this subscription is also included in the package with Apple Music and Apple TV.
Also, the creators of one of the games, Alba: A Wildlife Adventure, intend to plant one tree per download. So far, more than 270,000 trees have been planted as part of this campaign, but the organizers hope that they will manage to reach a million. By signing up for Apple Arcade, users have the opportunity to help nature.
For a Ukrainian user, the price will be $4.99 per month.
A fly in the ointment
Users note an inconvenient interface and difficulties with intuitive navigation. Games cannot be displayed in a simple list and sorted by genre. Everything is marked with large tiles with screenshots, which can become a problem as the title library gets bigger. Owners of the iPhone 12 complain about constant notifications popping up on the screen and coming in by email.
Although this is contrary to Apple's rules, the creators resort to this type of advertising, because they expected more from their product. However, the situation is gradually changing for the better. Simple and uncomplicated games appear in the service, in which users will willingly agree to play. And the lack of competition, due to the security of iOS devices, will help Apple Arcade thrive.
